Having a choice of platform is vital for a succesful aerial shoot.

We use three very different aerial systems to achieve these great photos, scroll down for examples....

  • Telescopic mast
  • Unmanned aerial vehicle
  • KAP

Platform 1. Telescopic mast

Our most popular and most versatile platform is the mast. Using an 18 metre (60 feet) telescopic mast (sometimes called a telescopic pole) for our camera platform we can operate in areas or conditions where all conventional aircraft are unable to fly.

Images are down-linked to a computer where the photographer has complete control of the cameras light settings, speed settings, pan/tilt and zoom.

This is particularly useful for events such as shows, galas, weddings,  sports meetings etc. where a high level of customer involvement is desirable.

The mast remains unobtrusive yet highly effective in such circumstances, for example this image was recently in the National Press, the absolute need for a non intrusive platform is obvious.

Angles like these are only possible with

our advanced  aerial techniques

Our remote control pan/tilt and remote triggering of the camera delivers high quality images from a marvellous new perspective

Simple one or two position shoots from a mast/camera ship cost  just $200 plus GST

Complex multi position aerial shoots from a mast/camera ship cost from $350 plus GST

Platform 2. UAV Unmanned aerial vehicles

Up until recently remote controlled helicopters have been popular as UAV's but health and safety risks coupled with insurance and technical difficulties means that fixed wing or multicopters are considered by some to be a safer option.

In light winds we can fly our UAV microlight. It presents a stable platform and is good for covering large sites in a relatively short time. It's slow flight and gliding characteristics allow for multiple passes within a reasonably large airspace.

Coming soon: Multicopter UAV

Bridging the gap between a Helicopters technical and safety problems and the Microlight UAV's need for airspace is the Multicopter.

Under development in the USA and Germany this platform will deliver safety, image quality and a very small flying footprint.

Being battery powered they are very quiet, extremely manoeuverable and environmentally sound. Delivery is expected by July 2010.

 Platform 3. KAP

We import specialist kites from the USA. We deploy kites with differing characterstics depending on the weather conditions. The two principal designs in use are Delta and Parafoil kites......

Deltas have a wingspan over 2 metres and they can fly in very light winds through to moderately strong winds, deploying a remote control camera at heights up to 500 feet with a high level of control and safety.

Parafoils are self inflating flying wings. They possess excellent higher wind loading abilities but their stability is not quite so even as that of a well-tuned Delta.

Kites are almost silent, use virtually no energy other than operator power and wind power.

If there is sufficient wind speed we can load a full remote control camera rig with a video downlink.

When winds are lighter or there is a risk associated with a heavy landing such as during gusty conditions then we load a lighter camera which shoots continuously on a fixed axis.

Multiple launches and walk throughs with a kite produce hundreds of good sharp viable images as can be seen below; these are contact prints, straight off the camera with no post production editing.

A great example for aerial photography is with real estate sales where you have just seconds to catch the eye of your buyer,  compare these before and after pictures.

Ok we're joking but you get the idea?

Post Production editing

A limited amount of post production editing is included in all shoots and includes cropping and straightening of images. More intense and detailed post production editing is available at $50 per hour.

In post production we reserve the right to only alter images in accordance with industry guidelines.

In simple terms this means that we can remove non-fixed items like a dog or a childs trampoline from a picture but we can't for example remove fixed items like shared driveways or neighbouring properties. Similarly we might add a bluer sky but not a swimming pool or conservatory.

One point to bear in mind is that we can justifiably remove items from a photo if they are only visible as a result of our unique perspective, power lines crossing our line of view are a case in point.
